The sequel features two main playable characters – Peter Parker and Miles Morales. This time the superheroes must face two primary villains – Kraven the Hunter and Venom. For those with a hazy memory, there is a brief recap of both Peter and Miles’ stories so far available, which is handy, as this is very much a sequel that weaves in both plotlines and characters from the previous games and 123b accompanying DLC.

They won’t just try to out-fight you, but they’ll also aim to out-think you.
With Spider- Man 2, the developer has found what makes superhero stories worth telling (and retelling) and given its likable heroes the journey they deserve. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s gameplay and its previous iterations, similarly plays like the Arkham series, Assassin’s Creed series, and even Ghost of Tsushima. The balance of combat and exploration are the main aspects of the gameplay. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a good game stuck in a package that is far from ideal.

The best thing MJ contributes to this game is when she turns into Scream. She vents her frustrations with herself and Peter in a way that shows she isn’t this perfect paragon she’s presented as the rest of the time. Lean into that and show that she’s just as flawed as the main two heroes, and more people might actually start to like her. Peter got jealous of Miles’ venom powers – sharing the name of the villain despite having no connection and never being mentioned – so he stole Doc Ock’s arms and made them his own.
